If you only do one walk whilst staying at Le Covent this should definitely be it! The scenery is absolutely stunning, there’s an easy path to follow beside the gorge and it’s barely a 15 minute drive from Hérépain.
To reach the car park at the start of the walk travel west along the D908 from Hérépian for approximately 15km. Immediately after the D14 (on your left) take a right turn. This will bring you to a large car parking area in the trees by the gorge.
The walk from the car park up to the hamlet of Héric will take you a couple of hours at a fairly leisurely pace but you can stop for a picnic or a swim in the many rock pools along the route. Braver types than us were rock climbing. When you make it to the old stone houses and cobbled streets of Héric you can reward yourself with a steaming hot chocolate from the little café. We did the walk in the autumn and on our way back down collected chestnuts from the abundance littering the path.
